Opposition Leader raises alarm over alleged misuse of Press passes
New Delhi: A senior political leader, IS Inbadurai, has submitted an urgent complaint to election authorities, raising concerns about the alleged misuse of press passes in the run-up to the counting process.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner and other senior officials, he claimed that individuals linked to a political party’s IT wing may have sought press accreditation through unofficial channels. According to the complaint, there are reports that some district authorities might have issued press passes to people who are not genuine media professionals.
The complaint warns that such actions could allow unauthorized individuals to enter counting centres under the pretext of being journalists. This, it argues, could potentially affect the transparency and fairness of the counting process.
Inbadurai has called for immediate verification of all press passes issued across districts. He has also urged authorities to ensure strict screening so that only accredited media personnel are granted access. Any passes found to be issued improperly should be cancelled without delay, he added.
Further, the complaint seeks accountability from officials, stating that district authorities and public relations officers should be held responsible if any irregularities are found in the issuance of press passes.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining democratic standards, the letter calls for swift action to ensure that the counting process remains free, fair, and transparent.
