New Delhi: Our lifestyle has changed significantly these days. We spend most of our time in front of screens. Besides this, the use of air conditioners has also become quite common. Along with this, increasing pollution is now causing many problems. Dry eye is one of these problems, which has become a major concern these days.
Regarding this, Dr Pawan Gupta, Senior Cataract and Retina Surgeon at I7 Hospital Lajpat Nagar and Vision Eye Clinic, New Delhi, says that in the modern era, dry eyes are emerging as a serious problem, and a large number of people are experiencing its symptoms. In this regard, the doctor has suggested some measures to alleviate the symptoms. Let's learn about them in detail:
Causes of Dry Eyes
The doctor explains that a major cause is prolonged screen use. When we use mobile phones, laptops, or computers for extended periods, our blinking rate unknowingly decreases. Instead of naturally blinking, we constantly stare at the screen.
This continuous staring at the screen widens the eye's surface, causing the tear film that keeps the eyes moist to evaporate rapidly. As a result, many people experience dryness, irritation, or even difficulty keeping their eyes open.
Another Major Cause
Another significant factor is our office environment. Nowadays, many offices are completely enclosed and rely heavily on air conditioning. Constant exposure to air-conditioned environments reduces the humidity in the air, making it dry. When the air loses moisture, it also absorbs moisture from the eyes, leading to increased dryness and discomfort.
Pollution is also responsible
Finally, pollution also plays a significant role in the problem of dry eyes. Dust, smoke, and other airborne pollutants irritate the surface of the eyes, disrupt the tear film, and make the eyes more susceptible to dryness and redness. All these factors combine to create a situation where dry eye is becoming increasingly prevalent and affecting people of all ages and professions.
