Washington: US President Donald Trump has indicated that he would prefer the United States to take control of Iran’s oil resources, though he acknowledged that such a move may not be widely supported domestically.

Speaking to reporters at the White House during the Easter Egg Roll event, Trump said his political base continues to back his approach but also wants a resolution to the conflict.

‘Americans May Not Understand’

Trump said that while his supporters approve of his actions, there is also a desire among Republicans to bring troops back home.

He added that although he would like to “keep the oil” and generate revenue, he believes many Americans may not fully understand or support such a decision.

Claims on War Progress

Defending the ongoing military campaign, Trump said the United States had significantly weakened Iran within a short period. He noted that the conflict had lasted just over a month, claiming that key infrastructure had already been heavily damaged.

He also suggested that Iran would take years to rebuild its facilities if the US were to withdraw immediately.

Nuclear Concerns Highlighted

Trump reiterated his stance that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, describing the issue as a key justification for continued pressure.

He emphasised that preventing nuclear capability remains central to US policy in the region.

Fresh Warning Over Strait of Hormuz

In a separate statement, Trump issued a strong warning to Iran, urging it to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He suggested that failure to comply could result in targeted strikes on critical infrastructure.

The warning included a specific deadline, adding urgency to the already tense situation.

Anticipation of Further Announcements

Trump is expected to address the media again from the Oval Office, with the ongoing conflict likely to be a key focus.

With tensions continuing to rise, both diplomatic and military developments are being closely watched as the situation evolves.
