Pakistan: 24 dead, many missing due to floods and landslides in country

Islamabad: Torrential rains have caused massive destruction in Pakistan. According to officials, till Friday, at least 24 people have died and many are missing in different parts of the country. The situation is very bad due to incidents of floods, landslides and house collapse in many areas.

Most destruction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

After the torrential rains on Thursday night, there were sudden floods and landslides in Lower Dir, Bajaur and Abbottabad districts. According to rescue officials, 16 people have died and 8 people have been injured in these incidents.

5 people died while 4 people were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Maidan Sori Pao area of ​​Lower Dir. These include women and children. 7 people were rescued from the debris, out of which 5 were declared dead by the doctors. Due to continuous rain, the water level of the Panjkora river has reached dangerous levels.

Cloudburst in Bajaur, people swept away

Cloudburst and landslides caused massive destruction in Jabrari and Salarzai areas of Bajaur district. So far 9 bodies and 4 injured have been recovered, while more than 17 people are missing. Many people were injured in the flood caused by cloudburst in Jabrari village. The rescue team recovered 5 bodies and sent the injured to the hospital after first aid.

Bajaur District Emergency Officer Amjad Khan is monitoring the relief work. Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali confirmed that 9 people have died in the Salarzai incident and 2 seriously injured have been admitted to Khar Hospital.

Car swept away in Mansehra, 2 dead

A car was swept away in an overflowing drain near Basyan Point on Kaghan Highway in Mansehra district. 2 people died and 1 is injured in this accident. 3 others were rescued. The administration has warned tourists to avoid non-essential travel during the rains.

The CM instructed to deploy all resources

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered to deploy all resources in rescue and relief operations. The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Malakand and Bajaur have been instructed to personally monitor the relief work. A helicopter has also been sent for the rescue mission. The CM has asked all districts, including Dir and Swat, to remain on high alert and make adequate arrangements for the safety of life and property.

Devastation in Gilgit-Baltistan and PoK too

8 people died and 2 people are missing in a sudden flood in Gizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. More than a dozen houses, many vehicles, schools and health centers were damaged in the flood. The Karakoram Highway and Baltistan Highway are closed at many places. The situation also worsened in Nelam Valley. Tourists were taken to safer places from here. More than 600 tourists camping at Ratti Gali Lake Base were advised to stay put as the link road was broken.

The flood washed away two bridges on the Lavat Nallah and the Jagran Nallah bridge at Kundal Shahi also broke. A beautiful riverside restaurant and at least 3 houses were washed away.

Cloudburst in Jhelum Valley

A cloudburst in Palhot area of Jhelum Valley broke down a part of the road and dozens of vehicles got stuck. As the water level of the Nelum river rose rapidly, the administration issued a flood alert and made preparations to shift the families living on the banks to safer places.

Family buried in landslide in PoK

A house was buried in Sarli Sacha village of Muzaffarabad district of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), in which 6 members of the same family died after being buried under the debris due to a landslide. A 26-year-old man was swept away in a drain in Sudhanoti district, while a 57-year-old woman died after her house collapsed in Bagh district.
