New Delhi: Participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described terrorism as the "gravest concern" for humanity.

He launched a scathing attack on countries adopting "double standards" in the fight against terrorism and made it clear that silence or neutrality on the issue will no longer be tolerated.

Mention of the Pahalgam terror attack

The Prime Minister in his address referred to the "terror attack" in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, in which 26 people lost their lives. He said, "This attack is an open challenge not only to the soul of India but to every country that believes in humanity." He asked the world leaders, "Is it right to accept a country that openly supports terrorism?"

Appeal for unity against terrorism

Modi urged the SCO member countries to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. He said that as long as threats like terror and extremism exist, no country or society can consider itself safe. “We have to say clearly that any kind of double standards against terrorism will not be acceptable,” says PM Modi.

India's anti-terrorism role

The Prime Minister said that India has always played an active role against Al-Qaeda and its affiliate organizations. He also strongly opposed those who fund terrorism and appealed to the SCO countries to take concrete steps in this direction.

“Funding of terrorism is a big concern. We have to intensify our efforts to stop radicalism.”
