Tehran: Iran will organise a memorial ceremony in Tehran next week for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with widespread speculation that his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, could make his first public appearance since assuming the country's highest leadership role.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time in the Iranian capital. While officials have not confirmed whether Mojtaba Khamenei will attend, media reports suggest the event could mark his first appearance before the public since becoming Supreme Leader.
The upcoming memorial has drawn significant attention because Mojtaba Khamenei has remained out of public view since taking over the leadership following the death of Ali Khamenei.
His absence has fuelled speculation about his health and public role. However, Iranian authorities have repeatedly dismissed such concerns, maintaining that the 56-year-old leader is in good health and continues to oversee state affairs.
Amid ongoing speculation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released a new image of Mojtaba Khamenei on Saturday. According to the IRGC, the photograph was published through the official website of the Supreme Leader's office and was intended to reaffirm that he is in "complete health."
The image came days before the planned memorial ceremony, adding to expectations that Mojtaba may appear publicly during the event.
The developments come against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
US President Donald Trump recently questioned Mojtaba Khamenei's condition while warning Iran of severe consequences if any attempt were made against him.
In response, Mojtaba issued a written statement reiterating Iran's resolve to retaliate for the killing of his father. He said the country had prepared a list of individuals it considers responsible and described retaliation as a national objective.
In his statement, Mojtaba Khamenei said that pursuing vengeance does not depend on any single individual but reflects the will of the Iranian nation.
As Tehran prepares for the memorial ceremony, international attention remains focused on whether the country's current Supreme Leader will make his long-awaited public appearance and what message such a move could send amid heightened regional and global tensions.
