J&K: Army Jawan killed, two injured in landmine blast in Poonch

Poonch: One jawan was killed and two others were seriously injured in a landmine blast in Krishna Ghati upazila of Poonch district.

The incident took place when Naib Subedar Hari Ram, Havaldar Gajendra Singh and Sepoy Lalit Kumar of the 7th Regiment of the Indian Army were on a routine patrol near their forward post. Meanwhile, they were hit by an explosion of an M-16 mine buried in the area.

Naib Subedar Hari Ram was martyred while Havaldar Gajendra Singh and Sepoy Lalit Kumar were critically injured in the blast. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital where they are undergoing treatment. As soon as the information of this incident reached the spot, the relief and rescue operations were started.

One of the injured, a JCO, has been taken to a military hospital and his condition is stable, according to the officials. Last month, the Army opened fire after spotting unusual activity in a forward area near the Line of Control in Rajouri district. Following this, security forces also carried out searches at over a dozen locations, including Poonch, Samba, and Kathua districts. Officials said that in the morning, troops noticed three to four people hiding under dense trees in the Chingus area of the Kiri sector in Rajouri.

The troops then fired more than 20 rounds and conducted searches, using drones as well. However, no suspects were found. Local police, the CRPF, and the Special Operations Group of the Rashtriya Rifles carried out search operations in various parts of Surankote and Mendhar areas in Poonch.

Raids were also conducted in Sari, Ustan, Pathankhor, Lohar Mohalla, Chandimarh, Fagal, Hari Top, and Kagwali in Surankote, as well as Limba, Uchhar, and Kallar-Gursai in Mendhar. Despite these efforts, no arrests were made, according to the officials. Grammar Check
