Pune: Deepak Mankar, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has asked the Central Government to include citizens' blood groups in their Aadhaar cards, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Deepak Mankar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Health Minister, asking them to include this important medical information in the Aadhaar card so that lives can be saved in emergencies.
He believes that the Aadhaar card is now a very important identity document for every citizen. It is used in several situations. If this document also includes medical details like blood group, then it can help in providing quicker treatment during serious accidents or natural disasters.
To support his request, Deepak Mankar mentioned two major incidents—the Ahmedabad plane crash and Operation Sindoor.
He said that in both these events, many people needed blood. Blood donation camps were organized all over the country. If the blood groups of the victims were already recorded in any official document, the treatment could have been much faster.

He also pointed out that thousands of people are injured in road accidents every year in India.
In such cases, without timely information about a person's medical history and blood group, treatment is delayed, which can lead to higher chances of death. Adding blood group information to the Aadhaar card could help hospitals and doctors provide immediate care.
He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that today, the Aadhaar card is required for almost everything—whether it is for schooling or opening a bank account.
In such a situation, adding blood group details could be very useful during a medical emergency. It would not only help doctors and hospitals but also help save people's lives.
However, there are also concerns about technology and privacy. Experts say that before adding any additional medical information to the Aadhaar card, there needs to be a full discussion about the security of personal and data privacy.
If the Government takes this seriously and prioritizes the consent and data security of citizens, then the Aadhaar card could become more than just an identity card—it could also be a life-saving document in the future. It now remains to be seen what decision the central government will take on this proposal.
