New Delhi: Six more Bangladeshi immigrants, all women, were detained by the East District team of Delhi Police during a special drive to identify and deport foreign nationals residing unlawfully in the city.
This comes a day after the South East district team had detained six Bangladeshi immigrants along with the arrest of five Indian facilitators, Police said on Sunday.
The detained immigrants identified as Mim Akhtar, Meena Begum, Sheikh Munni, Payal Sheikh, Sonia Akhtar, and Taniya Khan, were found living in Delhi without valid documents, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania.
He added that the action was followed by a tip-off about the illegal stay of foreign nationals at Mandawali police station.
The operation is part of a broader effort launched by the Delhi Police on November 19, 2024, to detect and deport illegal immigrants, the DCP mentioned.
Speaking about the details of the crackdown so far, DCP Dhania mentioned that a total of 15 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been identified and deported under the drive.
The detained women have been placed for deportation with the assistance of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi.
Moreover, legal proceedings under the Foreigners Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) are also underway, he said.

Delhi Police has detained seven illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the Delhi NCR region.
According to police these Bangladeshis had entered the country illegally through river routes on the India-Bangladesh Border.
The illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were nabbed in the Delhi NCR under the Delhi Police East district during a special drive.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, East District, Abhishek Dhania said, "The illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had entered India via river routes near India-Bangladesh border. They were residing at various locations to evade detection. Their deportation process was initiated with the assistance of Foreigners Regional Registration Office".
"Based on secret intelligence, the police first detained Dilawar Khan in Krishna Nagar, Delhi. During interrogation he revealed his true identity and led to the discovery of six more individuals multiple raids were conducted at Laxmi Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Seemapuri (Delhi), and Shalimar Garden", Dhania added.
About 900 Bangladeshi, Rohingya Nabbed So Far
Railway Protection Force (RPF) collaborating with Border Security Force, local police, and intelligence units have apprehended 586 Bangladeshi and 318 Rohingya to prevent illegal migration, since 2021.
