New Delhi: The great festival of Diwali is just a few days away.

According to the calendar, Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Kartik. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped in every home. This year, Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, October 20th, also known as Deepawali.

But have you ever wondered why Lord Ganesha is worshipped alongside Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali worship, and why Bappa sits on Goddess Lakshmi's right side during that worship? Let's explore the mythological reason behind worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha together.

The reason for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha together on Diwali?

According to many epics, Lord Ganesha was Goddess Lakshmi's adopted son.

According to the legend, Goddess Lakshmi once became extremely proud of herself. She felt that everyone in the world worshiped her only to gain her blessings, and therefore she was the most superior.

When Lord Vishnu saw this sentiment in Goddess Lakshmi, he smiled and said, "Goddess, you are truly worthy of worship, but you lack one thing: you possess immense wealth and prosperity, but lack the joy of motherhood. This is why you yearn for the love of a child."

Lord Ganesha was Goddess Lakshmi's adopted son.

Hearing these words from Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi's pride was shattered. Her heart was troubled, and in distress, she went to Goddess Parvati to share this.

Goddess Parvati, herself the mother of Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya, understood Goddess Lakshmi's sorrow. Then, affectionately taking her son Ganesha in her lap, said to Goddess Lakshmi, "Goddess, from now on, Ganesha will be your son. Consider him your own son and experience the joy of motherhood."

Having Ganesha in her lap filled Goddess Lakshmi's heart with joy. She felt as if her life had been completed. After experiencing the joy of motherhood, she granted Ganesha a beautiful boon: "From today on, wherever I am worshipped, you will be worshipped first.

I will never reside where anyone worships me without you." This is why every auspicious event begins with the worship of Lord Ganesha. And on Diwali night, when people worship Goddess Lakshmi, they first pray to Lord Ganesha and seek his blessings, so that their homes may be filled with prosperity, wisdom, and good fortune.
