Nashik: Relentless rainfall continued to batter Maharashtra's Nashik district on Tuesday, severely disrupting normal life and forcing authorities to suspend darshan at the revered Trimbakeshwar Temple. The decision was taken as a precaution after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of extremely heavy rainfall and possible cloudburst-like conditions in parts of the district.

Temple closed as safety measure

With thousands of devotees visiting the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga every day, the temple administration temporarily suspended public darshan to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Authorities appealed to devotees to postpone their visit until weather conditions improve, adding that the temple would reopen once the situation becomes safe.

Heavy rain disrupts daily life

Continuous showers since Monday night have led to widespread waterlogging across Nashik, with several roads inundated and traffic movement severely affected. Low-lying areas witnessed flooding, while strong winds and poor visibility made commuting difficult. Authorities also expressed concern over the possibility of landslides in hilly regions, particularly around Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri.

As a precaution, schools, colleges and weekly markets in vulnerable areas remained closed, and disaster response teams were deployed to monitor the situation. Residents living near rivers and flood-prone locations were advised to remain alert.

Administration issues advisory

The district administration urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers, waterfalls and other tourist spots until the weather improves. Emergency services have been kept on standby, while officials continue to monitor rainfall and water levels across the district.

With the monsoon showing no signs of easing, authorities have appealed to citizens and pilgrims to follow official advisories and cooperate with safety measures. The administration said restoring normalcy and ensuring public safety remain the top priority as Nashik continues to witness intense rainfall.
