New Delhi: A western disturbance has brought a sudden change in the weather in northwest India and the surrounding plains. Light rain, strong winds, and snowfall were recorded in many places, and hilly areas experienced snowfall. Many cities, including the capital region, remained overcast since morning, with intermittent showers. This drop in weather also led to slight fluctuations in temperatures, making people feel the cold again.

Weather likely to remain unstable

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the active western disturbance over southeastern Pakistan and western Rajasthan is likely to cause continued rain and snowfall. The department stated that clouds, light rain, and strong winds are likely to prevail in many states for the next two days. Snowfall is expected in the higher elevations and rain in the lower elevations of the hilly state of Uttarakhand.

Snowfall in mountains, rain in the plains

Several areas of Himachal Pradesh experienced light drizzle after a cloudy day, while fresh snowfall was recorded on the higher peaks. Snowfall in the Rohtang Pass and surrounding high-altitude areas has intensified the cold. Light rain and strong winds accompanied many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, and Uttar Pradesh. Hailstorms were also reported in some places, raising the possibility of crop damage.

Strong Wind Warning for Marine Areas

A low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to cause strong winds with speeds of 35 to 55 kilometers per hour in coastal areas. Light rain and strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms are forecast for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next few days.

Temperatures Will Fluctuate

According to forecasts, minimum temperatures in northwest India may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures may rise slightly. Temperatures will also fluctuate in some parts of western and central India. Dense fog is expected in the morning in several coastal states, potentially affecting visibility. Drivers are urged to exercise caution.

Overall, this changing weather pattern will bring a combination of cold, rain, and strong winds for the next few days.
