New Delhi: At a time when escalating tensions in West Asia have disrupted global energy supply chains, India has received a crucial boost on the LPG front. Despite restrictions imposed by Iran in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, an Indian-flagged LPG tanker has successfully secured safe passage and is now en route to Mumbai.

Key Breakthrough in the Strait of Hormuz

Amid strained relations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, Tehran has allowed select Indian vessels to pass through controlled maritime corridors. This development comes as a relief for India, which has been facing supply pressure and rising queues for LPG in several regions.

44,000 Metric Tons of LPG on Board

The tanker, Green Sanvi, is carrying more than 44,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Its arrival is expected to ease supply concerns and stabilize availability for consumers. Notably, this is the seventh Indian LPG vessel to successfully transit the Strait of Hormuz in the past month, highlighting a gradual normalization of shipments despite the geopolitical strain.

Journey Towards Mumbai

Ship-tracking data indicates that Green Sanvi, which had been stationed in the Persian Gulf, crossed Iranian waters through a designated route on Friday evening. It has now moved past the eastern side of the Strait of Hormuz and is steadily heading toward Mumbai port.

More Tankers Await Clearance

While this development is encouraging, several Indian vessels are still awaiting permission to proceed. Reports suggest that 17 Indian tankers remain positioned west of the Strait of Hormuz, pending clearance from Iranian authorities.

Among them, two LPG carriers-Green Asha and Jag Vikram-are loaded and ready to depart. Officials expect that once these vessels are cleared and reach Indian shores, they will further ease the current supply crunch.

Hope for Easing LPG Shortage

With multiple shipments gradually making their way through one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, there is growing optimism that LPG availability in India will improve in the coming weeks. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as geopolitical developments unfold.
