Kerala moves Supreme Court seeking deferment of SIR till local body polls

The State Govt has filed the writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution. It has submitted that conducting the SIR alonwith the local body elections will create administrative complications and may disrupt the smooth conduct of the polls.

New Delhi: The Kerala government has moved the Supreme Court for deferment of the Special Interim Revision (SIR) exercise presently underway by the Election of India in the state until the ongoing process for elections to the Local Self-government Institutions (LSGIs) is completed.

The State Govt has said that the manner in which the SIR exercise is being undertaken is "not conducive to the democratic polity of the country".

The State Govt has said that it may create administrative complications in case the SIR is permitted to continue alongside the local body elections in December.
