Srinagar: An incident of firing occurred inside an army barracks in Kupwara district of North Kashmir late Saturday night. According to reports, a soldier allegedly opened fire on his comrades, injuring three soldiers. The incident occurred at an army camp in the Trehgam area.

Incident occurred during Earth Hour

According to sources, the incident occurred when the barracks lights were off due to Earth Hour, plunging the entire area into darkness. The accused soldier took advantage of the situation and opened fire. This sudden incident created panic in the camp.

Firing with an INSAS rifle

It is reported that the accused soldier opened fire indiscriminately inside the barracks using his personal INSAS rifle. Three soldiers nearby were hit and seriously injured.

Condition of injured

The soldiers injured in the firing were immediately rushed to the hospital. One driver sustained serious gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg and was immediately rushed to the operating room. Another soldier sustained serious injuries to his thigh, femur, and genitals and underwent surgery. The third soldier sustained minor shrapnel injuries to his left side.

Two soldiers are in stable condition

According to officials, all three injured are undergoing treatment. Currently, two soldiers are in stable condition, while one remains in critical condition. A team of doctors is monitoring them closely.

Investigation into cause of incident has begun

The motive behind this incident is still unclear. The Army and relevant agencies have launched an investigation. Officials say they are considering all aspects to determine why the soldier took such a drastic step.
