North India Cold Wave Intensifies: Dense fog, sub-zero temperatures in Kashmir; IMD warns of further dip

North India is reeling under an intense cold wave, with temperatures plunging across Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of Rajasthan. Several regions, including Pulwama’s Konibal, recorded temperatures as low as –6°C. IMD has issued warnings of increasing cold, dense fog and continued dry weather over the next week.

New Delhi: Winter has begun to take hold in North India. Minimum temperatures in the Kashmir Valley remain consistently below freezing. Konibal in Pulwama district of South Kashmir recorded a temperature of minus 6 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the valley.

The temperature in Srinagar was minus 3.1 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the minus 4.5 degrees Celsius recorded a day earlier.

Kupwara: minus 4.9°C

Kokernag: minus 1.6°C

Pahalgam: minus 5.2°C

Gulmarg: minus 1.3°C

Dense fog enveloped most areas of the valley during the morning, especially in lakes and riverside areas. The IMD has forecast dry weather in Kashmir until December 10. Cloudy skies and temperatures are expected to drop further between December 1 and 5.

Dry weather in Rajasthan, temperatures to drop further

Dry weather has persisted in Rajasthan for the past several days. According to the Jaipur Meteorological Center, temperatures in the Shekhawati region (Jhunjhunu, Sikar, and Churu) have dropped by 8–9 degrees.

The mercury is above 10 degrees in most parts of the state, but an additional drop of 2–3 degrees is expected over the next three days.

Night temperatures in the Shekhawati region may reach 4–5 degrees Celsius between December 2 and 4, further intensifying the cold.

Frost and fog will trouble Uttarakhand

Cold weather is intensifying in both the hilly and plain areas of Uttarakhand. Temperatures are consistently approaching zero in the high-altitude areas of Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag. Dense morning fog is expected in the plains-Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.

The IMD has issued a warning of cold wave-like conditions between November 30 and December 4. Cold and fog to increase in Delhi-NCR and Punjab-Haryana Dry weather in the plains of North India is causing temperatures to steadily drop.

Dense fog is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh next week. Night temperatures in Delhi-NCR are expected to gradually drop, impacting morning visibility. The IMD has warned that this fog may impact vehicle speeds and travel in the coming days.

Next 7–10 Days: Dry Weather, Cold to Increase

According to the IMD, the weather will remain dry in most states of North India for the next 7 to 10 days. Minimum temperatures will continue to decline gradually. Chills will increase in the morning and late evening in many areas, and fog conditions will remain severe.
