Srinagar: The Meteorological Department in Srinagar on Saturday sounded a fresh weather alert, projecting a wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir between August 23 and 26.

According to the advisory, most districts of the Jammu region—including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Rajouri—are likely to experience heavy showers at intervals. Southern belts of the Kashmir Valley may also see significant downpours coupled with thunder and lightning.

Officials cautioned that during this phase, vulnerable spots could witness cloudbursts, flash flooding, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, posing serious risks to life and property. Residents have been urged to remain alert, avoid venturing near rivers, streams, or unstable slopes, and adhere strictly to safety guidelines.

The department further noted that from August 27 to 31, the region will shift to a humid pattern, marked by rising temperatures and short-lived rain or thunder in isolated places. A similar mix of warm, sticky weather with scattered thunder activity is expected to continue from September 1 through 5.
