New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday said that India’s growing self-reliance in the defence sector played a crucial role in the success of Operation Sindoor, the precision military strikes carried out against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Addressing the nation on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, the President underscored India’s firm commitment to national security.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack and targeted terror infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Recalling the operation, President Murmu said India launched “precision strikes against terror infrastructure,” resulting in the destruction of terror camps and the elimination of several terrorists. She credited the country’s defence indigenisation efforts for enabling the Armed Forces to execute the operation effectively.

Highlighting military preparedness, the President said people have complete trust in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, adding that India’s defence strength allows the country to advocate peace from a position of confidence and strength.
The President reflected on her personal interactions with the Armed Forces, recalling her visits to the Siachen Base Camp and experiences aboard frontline defence platforms, including Sukhoi and Rafale fighter jets and the submarine INS Vaghsheer. These experiences, she said, reaffirmed her belief in India’s defence readiness.
She praised the professionalism and dedication of the Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation and ensuring the security of citizens amid evolving global challenges.
President Murmu reiterated India’s role as a “messenger of peace” rooted in its ancient civilisational values. She said that even as geopolitical tensions rise across various regions of the world, India continues to promote universal harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Congratulating citizens on the occasion of Republic Day, the President urged people to reflect on the nation’s journey, achievements, and future direction. She recalled how the freedom movement culminated in Independence on August 15, 1947, and how the enforcement of the Constitution marked India’s transformation into a democratic republic.
Calling the Constitution the foundation of the world’s largest democracy, she said its ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity continue to guide India’s unity, nationalism, and collective progress.
