New Delhi: In Parliament, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav raised serious questions regarding the Women's Reservation Bill, directing them at the Central Government. She stated that the government is utilizing data that is 20 years old-a fact that casts doubt upon both its policy and its intent. According to her, this move appears less like genuine reform and more like political propaganda.

Reference to the Constitution and Reservation

Dimple Yadav clarified that the reservation currently available to women is a gift of the Indian Constitution, the provision for which was ensured by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. She asserted that the reservation accorded to women belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) and is not a matter of any government's discretion, but rather a direct result of constitutional provisions.

Demand for Minority Women (SC, ST, OBC)

She emphatically demanded that women belonging to minority communities (SC, OBC, ST) also be included within the scope of the Women's Reservation Bill. In her view, this bill will remain incomplete until women from all sections of society receive equal representation.

Questions Regarding Elections and the Government's Intent

Dimple Yadav alleged that the government's intentions are not transparent, noting that with elections underway in four states, the bill appears to have been introduced with future electoral strategies in mind. She argued that, through this move, women are being misled.

Demand for Census and Delimitation

The SP MP demanded that a new national census-specifically including a caste census-be conducted first. She insisted that the delimitation process be completed accurately thereafter, and *only then* should reservation be granted to women, ensuring that the allocation is truly equitable.

Akhilesh Yadav's Support and Questions

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav also questioned the government, asking whether Muslim women do not constitute a part of "half the population." He alleged that the government is deliberately avoiding conducting a census and is, in effect, tampering with the Constitution. He reiterated the demand to safeguard the rights of all sections of society.
