Long Queues and Celebrity Presence Mark Tamil Nadu Elections (Image Source: Internet)
Chennai: Tremendous enthusiasm was seen during voting in 234 assembly seats of Tamil Nadu. There were long queues at many polling booths across the state and good voting trend was seen from urban to rural areas. Around 56.81% voting was recorded till 1 pm.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udaya Nidhi Stalin, Edappadi K. Many big leaders including Palaniswami and P. Chidambaram cast their votes early in the morning and appealed to the people to vote.
A robot in traditional Tamil attire was deployed at a polling booth in Vellore, welcoming voters. This initiative became a unique example of the use of technology in the election process.
The cinema world also had a big participation in this election. Many stars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajit Kumar, Surya and Dhanush made people aware by voting.
Vijay, who is in the electoral fray this time, wrote a letter to the Election Commission demanding extension of polling time. He said that due to long queues and slow process at many booths, voting is getting delayed, which may cause problems to the voters.
This time the election contest is quite interesting as DMK alliance, AIADMK-led NDA, and TVK (Vijay's new party) are battling against each other to rule the state. There is a tough competition between the three, which has made the election even more exciting.
The Election Commission has made elaborate security arrangements with EVMs and VVPATs at over 75,000 polling stations. About 3.6 lakh personnel have been deployed on election duty. Special facilities have also been provided for elderly and disabled voters.
Voting will continue till 6 pm and counting of votes will take place on May 4. Now all eyes are on whether DMK will retain power, AIADMK will make a comeback or Vijay's TVK will emerge as the new political force.
