New Delhi: The weather across North India is showing signs of change, bringing hope and relief from the intense summer heat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR, predicting light rainfall and strong winds today, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
For Delhi, the recent spells of pre-monsoon rain have already brought a significant drop in temperature. The IMD says that the pleasant weather will continue till 24 June, with light showers expected today as well. Winds may blow at a speed of 50 to 60 km/h, and thunder and lightning are also possible. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34°C, while the minimum may drop to 23°C.
Rain is also expected in nearby regions such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. This could bring great relief to residents suffering from the heat.
According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Delhi between June 20 and 23, which is 7–10 days earlier than the usual date of June 30. Pre-monsoon showers have already started, and more rain is expected till June 23. Once the monsoon fully sets in, heavy rainfall is expected in July, benefiting both city residents and farmers.
In Uttar Pradesh, the monsoon has already reached several areas. Light to moderate rain is expected today in Varanasi, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Baghpat, Meerut, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Lucknow, Hardoi, Sambhal, Jhansi, Jalaun, and Amethi. Heavy rain is likely in Lucknow and Raebareli.
Rajasthan is also expected to see rainfall in the coming days, with clouds building up and temperatures gradually decreasing.
In Uttarakhand, the weather department has issued a heavy rain alert for hilly areas like Nainital and Bageshwar. Other districts may see partly cloudy skies and light to moderate rain.
