New Delhi: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has sharpened her attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party days after the TMC suffered a major defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Addressing party MLAs during a meeting in Kolkata’s Kalighat area, Banerjee claimed the BJP-led government at the Centre would eventually lose power.

According to party sources, Mamata said the BJP’s rule in Delhi would not continue forever and asserted that political circumstances would change in the coming years.

The remarks came amid growing tension in West Bengal following the BJP’s sweeping victory in the Assembly elections, where the party won 207 seats, ending the TMC’s 15-year rule in the state. The Trinamool Congress managed to secure 80 seats.

Abhishek Banerjee Says Fight Against BJP Will Continue

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also addressed the meeting and signalled that the party would continue its political battle despite the electoral setback.

He said pressure tactics, notices or threats would not force him to back down and maintained that his fight against the BJP would continue. Abhishek also took a direct swipe at newly appointed Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during his speech.

Referring to past allegations involving Adhikari, he claimed that West Bengal had seen many chief ministers over the years but none like the present one.

TMC Moves High Court Over Post-Poll Violence

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has approached the Calcutta High Court over allegations of post-poll violence in several parts of the state. The party has claimed that its workers and offices were targeted after the election results were declared.

According to the petition filed before the court, incidents of vandalism, arson and clashes were reported from Kolkata, Howrah and multiple district towns. The TMC has sought protection for its workers and demanded an investigation into the violence.

The BJP and TMC have blamed each other for the unrest reported across different areas of the state.

Mamata Appears In Court

In a significant political moment, Mamata Banerjee also appeared before the Calcutta High Court on May 14 wearing lawyer’s robes in connection with a public interest litigation related to the post-poll developments.

The ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and TMC is expected to intensify further as both sides continue to exchange allegations over governance, violence and the election outcome.
