Record Participation Across Constituencies

Polling in Phase 1 covered 152 constituencies across 16 districts, with approximately 3.6 crore voters eligible to cast their ballots. By 5 PM, voter turnout had reached 89.93%, reflecting one of the highest participation rates in recent elections.

Earlier in the day, turnout stood at 18.76% within the first two hours of voting, indicating a steady and enthusiastic response from voters since polling began at 7 AM.

District-Wise Trends Emerge

Among the constituencies, Bankura recorded the highest early turnout, followed closely by Samserganj in Murshidabad and Chandrakona in Paschim Medinipur. On the other hand, lower participation was observed in areas such as Cooch Behar Dakshin and parts of Malda district.

The varying turnout levels highlight regional differences in voter engagement during the initial hours of polling.

Minor Disruptions Reported

Despite largely smooth polling, some disruptions were reported due to electronic voting machine (EVM) glitches. In one instance, Congress candidate Sanjoy Adhikari alleged that he was unable to cast his vote for a period due to a malfunctioning machine.
