Fire engulfs two coaches of Tatanagar–Ernakulam express, one dead; Forensic probe launched

A fire broke out in two coaches of the Tatanagar–Ernakulam Express near Yelamanchili in Andhra Pradesh late at night. One passenger died and several others suffered minor injuries. The fire engulfed B-1 and M-2 coaches while passengers were asleep.

Visakhapatnam: A massive fire broke out in two coaches of the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express late Sunday night in the Yelamanchili area of ​​Andhra Pradesh. One passenger died in the incident, while several others sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and a forensic investigation is underway.

Fire reported at 12:45 AM

According to police officials, they received information about the fire on the train at around 12:45 AM. Immediate relief and rescue operations were launched after the incident. A body was recovered from coach B-1 after the fire.

Deceased identified, investigation ongoing

The deceased has been identified as Chandrasekhar Sundaram. Considering the seriousness of the incident, the railway and police administration have deployed two forensic teams to investigate the cause of the fire.

Fire in coaches B-1 and M-2

According to media reports, the fire broke out in coaches B-1 and M-2. Most of the passengers were fast asleep when the incident occurred. Officials said that there were 82 passengers in coach B-1 and 76 passengers in coach M-2.

Major accident averted due to loco pilot's alertness

As soon as the loco pilot noticed the fire on the train, he immediately stopped the train and informed the fire department. However, by the time the fire brigade arrived, both coaches were completely gutted, and the station was filled with smoke.

The incident resulted in significant loss of life and property. While one passenger died, many passengers lost all their belongings in the fire. The two affected coaches were detached from the train, and the remaining train was sent to its destination, Ernakulam.

Due to this incident, several trains running on the Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada route have been canceled as a precautionary measure. The railway administration has prioritized passenger safety and has started working on alternative arrangements.
