Liverpool: Indian boxer Jasmine Lamboria, 24, has brought laurels to India by winning the gold medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025. Competing in the 57kg category, she defeated Poland's Julia Szeremeta in the final. Julia had earlier won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This final match was not easy. Jasmine was trailing after the first round of the match, but instead of feeling the pressure, she composed herself, regained her rhythm and made a brilliant comeback in the second round. After which she won 4-1. With this, she not only won the gold medal but also gave a strong message to the global boxing community.
While Jasmine's victory brought laurels to India, it was an unforgettable tournament for the men's team. For the first time in 12 years, not a single Indian male boxer was able to win a medal. Hopes were pinned on Jadumani Singh, but he lost 4-0 to Kazakhstan's Sanjer Tashkenbay in a one-sided match, dashing India's medal hopes in the men's category.

It was not easy for Jasmine Lamboria. Moving forward as a girl in a male-dominated sport brought its own challenges. But with the support of her uncles, Sandeep Singh and Parwinder Singh (both national-level boxers), Jasmine worked hard and made her mark.
Over the years, Jasmine Lamboria’s growth has been steady and inspiring. She won a bronze medal at the 2021 Asian Championships, followed by another bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. And earlier this year, she won a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup in Astana.
Jasmine’s performance has not just brought her personal success – it has also inspired young girls to take up boxing. Recognising her discipline and achievements, the Indian Army inducted her into its ranks – which speaks of her calibre and character, both inside and outside the ring.
