New Delhi: The Indian cricket team's young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, surprised everyone by playing a tremendous innings in the last Test match of the England tour. In the second innings of the Oval Test, he not only put India in a strong position by scoring a brilliant century but also troubled England's bowling a lot. This century, scored with the help of 11 fours and 2 sixes in 127 balls, proved that Yashasvi can perform well even under pressure in big matches.
Highlights of the innings: Attacked the leg side
Yashasvi especially troubled the England captain and fielders in this innings. He destroyed the fielding strategy of the British by hitting continuous shots on the leg side. He hit four fours one after the other between point and third man, to which the England bowlers had no answer. Even the England captain felt tired by changing the field settings but could not stop Yashasvi.
Centuries at both the start and end of the series
Yashasvi started this series with a century too. He scored a brilliant 101 in the first innings of the Leeds Test. However, his performance slowed down a bit in the middle matches—he was dismissed for 87 in the second Test, while in the next three matches he was dismissed for 28, 13, and 0. But in the last match, he returned to form and proved that he can score centuries even under great pressure.
India gets a strong position
Yashasvi's innings gave India a strong hold in the match. He, along with Akashdeep, made a century partnership for the third wicket, due to which India scored 114 runs in the first session itself. This dashed England's hopes, and the Indian team put pressure on the match.
Next, Rohit Sharma?
This century by Yashasvi Jaiswal is a big sign not only for this series but also for the future. He showed that he can score big even on foreign pitches. If he continues to perform like this, he can prove to be a reliable opener for the Indian team for a long time.
