New Delhi: The internet world has once again witnessed a major technical outage. A major problem at the web infrastructure company Cloudflare has caused numerous major websites and services to crash worldwide. From X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI, Canva, PayPal, to popular games like League of Legends and Valorant—all were affected by the outage.

What happened at Cloudflare? When did the problem begin?

According to Cloudflare's official status page, the problem began around 6 a.m. (ET). Initially, Cloudflare's support portal services were experiencing "issues," before gradually impacting several major platforms.

During this time, many websites began displaying "Internal Server Error" or Error Code 500. Some sites also displayed warnings like "Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to proceed," indicating that the website's security system was malfunctioning.

Although Cloudflare stated that its team was investigating the matter, the exact cause of the problem remains unknown. Interestingly, a "scheduled maintenance" was underway at Cloudflare's Santiago (SCL) datacenter at the same time, leading many to consider this a possible cause.

DownDetector also went down - the height of irony

DownDetector, the website that reported the outage, also went down for a while. This ironic situation arose because DownDetector is also based on Cloudflare's services. The site came back online after a few minutes, prompting a flood of reports of problems with X, League of Legends, and other services.

Which services were affected?

1. X (customers saw "Something went wrong")

Users were unable to load posts on X. The message "Something went wrong. Try reloading" kept appearing.

2. OpenAI and ChatGPT

For a short time, many users saw a Cloudflare security warning when visiting OpenAI's site. However, ChatGPT services quickly returned to normal.

3. Canva, PayPal, and Uber Eats

Canva users experienced problems saving projects.
Payment and order processing were also affected for PayPal and Uber Eats, although the impact was less pronounced compared to other platforms.

4. Multiplayer Games

Servers for games like League of Legends and Valorant were also affected by connectivity issues. Players were unable to access game lobbies.

What should users do?

Technical teams have assured that the original websites were not down, but rather that access to the websites was disrupted due to a temporary failure of Cloudflare's security layer.

If a user sees a warning like Error 500, Internal Server Error, or Cloudflare Challenge, it's not their fault—it's a temporary issue with the security system.
