In the Lok Sabha, MP Jitendra Dohre from Etawah strongly advocated for the teachers of the Basic Education Department. He stated that after the Supreme Court’s decision, unnecessary pressure is being put on senior teachers to pass the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test), even though they have been educating children for years based on their qualifications and experience.
New Delhi: In the Lok Sabha, Etawah MP Jitendra Dohre forcefully raised the issues faced by teachers. He said that after the Supreme Court's decision of September 1 teachers appointed before 2010-2011 in the Basic Education Department have also been mandated to pass the TET. If they fail to pass the exam within two years, they face the threat of compulsory retirement.
MP Dohre said that teachers who were appointed 25-30 years ago, fulfilling the then-existing eligibility standards, have shaped the future of millions of children with their experience, dedication, and teaching skills. Subjecting such teachers to a new eligibility test is unfair and inhumane.
He said that teachers come from poor families, farming backgrounds, and ordinary households. They are not associated with any political party but are dedicated to serving society. Therefore, jeopardizing their jobs is wrong. The MP accused the government of 'snatching away jobs' and said that the 'double-engine government' is putting the future of teachers at risk.
Dohre appealed to the government to exempt teachers appointed before the implementation of TET from this requirement and to secure their jobs. He said that there is widespread discontent among teachers due to these unnecessary rules, and the government should take a sensitive decision.
