Hyundai recalls over 135,000 Santa Fe SUVs over fire risk; Deets inside

New Delhi: Hyundai Motor Company has decided to recall over 135,300 units of its popular Santa Fe SUV in the US. According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this action has been taken due to the risk of fire in the vehicle. According to Hyundai, a manufacturing defect related to the starter motor has been found in some Santa Fe SUVs, which can cause an electrical short circuit.

Danger From Manufacturing Defect in Starter Motor

According to media reports, the starter motor's protective cover was not installed properly during the assembly of Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs. This defect increases the possibility of an electrical short circuit. If the vehicle is involved in a collision or accident, this short circuit can cause a fire. Given this serious problem, the company has decided to recall the affected vehicles.

Which Models And When Are Vehicles Manufactured?

This recall applies to 2024 and 2025 model year Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. These vehicles were manufactured at Hyundai's Alabama manufacturing plant between December 28, 2023, and July 7, 2025. A total of more than 135,300 units will be recalled. The company has contacted affected vehicle owners and promised to provide them with free repairs or part replacements.

Increasing Recalls In Auto Industry

Hyundai isn't the only company to recently announce a large-scale recall. This week, Toyota also decided to recall nearly 400,000 vehicles. The rearview camera failure has been detected in Toyota's Tundra, Tundra Hybrid (2022-2025), and Sequoia Hybrid (2023-2025) models. This issue is caused by a software glitch that causes the camera display to not work when reversing, increasing the risk of accidents.

Company Features and Tips for Customers

Toyota will provide free software updates to affected customers at its dealerships. The company has stated that an official notification will be sent to all affected customers by November 16, 2025. Hyundai will also contact vehicle owners to offer free repairs and part replacements to ensure safe driving.
