New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, has said that Indian ships will continue to receive safe passage through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Fathali described India as a trusted partner and said Tehran would ensure that Indian interests are protected in the crucial maritime corridor.

He said that the long-standing relationship between the two countries and their shared regional interests remain an important factor in maintaining cooperation.

Strait Not Formally Closed, Says Iranian Representative

Meanwhile, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi said the Strait of Hormuz has not been officially closed despite the ongoing conflict in the region. However, he acknowledged that the current security situation has created operational difficulties for commercial vessels.

According to him, some ships are still managing to pass through the waterway, although movement has slowed. The waterway is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil shipments.

Calls for Global Intervention

Ilahi also called on international leaders to intervene and help end the ongoing conflict. He argued that countries involved in initiating hostilities should take responsibility for halting the war and reducing the impact on civilians across the region.

He further claimed that Iran had been pursuing diplomatic engagement with the United States before the conflict escalated.

US Rejects Blockade Concerns

Responding to concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Pete Hegseth said the United States remains prepared to maintain freedom of navigation in the region.

He stated that the US military is monitoring developments and is capable of addressing any attempts to restrict shipping traffic.

Maritime Tensions Continue to Rise

The developments come amid rising hostilities between the United States and Iran, with several reported attacks on vessels in Gulf waters.

Reports indicate that multiple ships have been struck since the conflict began, raising concerns about the security of one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
