Western disturbance is causing the change
New Delhi: The northern regions of India are witnessing dramatic weather changes today as Western disturbance sweeps through, triggering rainfall, thunderstorms, and even early winter conditions across several states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts ranging from yellow watches to orange warnings in different areas, urging caution.
While precipitation is subsiding in parts of northern India, cooler conditions and temperature fluctuations are expected to persist throughout the week.
Delhi may see more rain after tuesday; Check temperature forecast before stepping out
After a spell of heavy showers and gusty winds on Tuesday night, weather in Delhi and adjoining NCR cities improved significantly on Wednesday.
The rain not only disrupted air traffic and local transport but also helped clean the city’s air. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi improved to 73- its best level in months.
Pleasant weather after rain
The IMD forecast suggests clear skies and dry weather for the next few days. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 33°C, while the minimum may hover near 22°C, making mornings and evenings comfortable. The humidity levels will remain moderate, and no major rainfall is expected until the weekend.
In Uttar Pradesh, the rain that brought temporary relief earlier this week has now subsided. Daytime temperatures are expected to climb again, especially in the central and eastern parts of the state. Cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Prayagraj may see the mercury touching 35°C to 36°C by Thursday.
The IMD has advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid long exposure to the sun during peak hours. Despite the heat, some areas of western UP, particularly near Saharanpur and Bareilly, could see patchy cloud cover and light drizzle due to leftover moisture from the recent weather system.
Delhi Rain: Orange alert in National Capital; Know what to expect this week?
The hills of Uttarakhand are experiencing a sharp drop in temperature following intermittent rain and early snowfall in higher regions. Districts such as Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh recorded light snow over 3,500 meters. Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham received their first major snowfall of the season, bringing down temperatures to single digits.
The IMD has placed a yellow alert for the next 48 hours, warning of slippery roads and the possibility of landslides in sensitive zones. Tourists and pilgrims have been advised to check local conditions before traveling.
