Lucknow: Central government has announced to conduct the census in two phases. First the families will be counted and then individually. The special thing is that this time the details of caste as well as sub-castes will also be recorded. More than 4.50 lakh personnel will be put on duty for this in UP. The officers of the state government and local bodies have also started preparations.

Dynamite News correspondent reports, the last census in the country was done in the year 2011. After this, the census was proposed in 2021, but it was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. Now the process is starting again. This time it will be the first time when the data of the houses will be fed directly from the mobile app. This will save time spent in paperwork and also increase accuracy.

Caste census In Two Phases

The government has fixed the date of census for hilly states as 1 October 2026 and for plain states as 1 March 2027. The first phase of work will be done in May-June 2026 in all the plain states including UP. In this, basic information like condition of every house, facilities, electricity, water, toilet etc. will be collected. About 30 to 45 days will be taken in this work. In the second phase, all the information like age, profession, employment and caste will be taken from every person.

This time the biggest challenge will be the correct calculation of sub-castes along with caste. Till now only caste data of SC-ST was taken. But now every caste and sub-caste will also be traced.

The list of OBC and SC-ST is already fixed, but there are many sub-castes in the general category, which do not have any government documents. Many times people of these categories put different titles in front of their names. In such a situation, the government may face difficulty in registering them correctly.

UP currently has 1.04 lakh villages and 783 bodies. Census will be conducted considering them as units. No new body or tehsil will be formed till 31 December 2026 before the census. Every body or village will be considered 'charge' and charge officers will be posted there.

Apart from this, some villages which are rapidly growing like cities will be given the status of 'Census Nagar'. This will include those villages whose population is more than 5,000, density is 400 persons per square km and 75 percent of the people do other work apart from farming.

Government sources say that first of all all the employees will be given training. Then there will be mapping of villages and cities and after that work will be done in the field.
