Thunderstorm hits Lucknow and adjoining districts (Img: Internet)
Lucknow: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a short-term weather warning for several districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, forecasting moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall over the next three hours.
According to the alert released by IMD Lucknow on May 4, wind speeds are expected to range between 40 and 60 kmph in affected areas.
The warning covers multiple districts, including Ambedkar Nagar, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Ballia, Balrampur, Basti, Deoria, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Mau, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Siddharth Nagar.

These regions are expected to witness sudden weather changes, with thunderstorms developing rapidly.
A red alert remains in force for Lucknow, Unnao, Barabanki, Hardoi, Sitapur, Bahraich, Gonda, Shravasti, and Lakhimpur Kheri, where moderate thunderstorms with hail and strong winds could cause damage to trees, power lines, and temporary structures.
An orange alert has been issued for Rae Bareli, Amethi, Kanpur Nagar, Ayodhya, Kanpur Dehat, Auraiya, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Shahjahanpur, and Balrampur, where thunderstorms with lightning and winds up to 60 kmph may lead to localised disruptions.
The IMD has highlighted the possibility of lightning strikes along with moderate rainfall. Gusty winds could pose risks such as falling branches, damage to temporary structures, and disruptions in outdoor activities.
Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious, especially during peak storm activity.
Authorities recommend staying indoors during thunderstorms and avoiding open fields or taking shelter under trees. People are also advised to unplug electronic devices and avoid water bodies during lightning activity.
