Special Parliament Sitting from April 16

The Centre has extended the Budget session to hold a special sitting from April 16 to 18. The session will focus on proposed amendments related to the Act, which aims to reserve one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The government views this as a crucial step toward operationalising the law ahead of future elections.

Focus on 2029 Lok Sabha Elections

Modi emphasised that the time has come to implement the legislation “in its true spirit.” He underlined the importance of ensuring that the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, along with upcoming Assembly polls, are conducted with women’s reservation in place.

According to the Prime Minister, this move would enhance representation, energise democratic institutions, and build greater public trust in governance.

Call for Unity Beyond Politics

Describing the initiative as one that rises above partisan interests, Modi appealed to Members of Parliament to support the proposal unanimously. He encouraged MPs to actively participate in the debate and express their views during the special session.
