Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday strongly criticised Israel’s recent military actions in Lebanon, calling them a violation of an existing ceasefire understanding.

In a statement posted on social media, Pezeshkian said the renewed strikes signal a lack of commitment to diplomatic agreements and warned that continued hostilities could undermine ongoing negotiations.

‘Negotiations Will Be Meaningless’

The Iranian president cautioned that further escalation would weaken any prospects of peace talks. “The continuation of these actions will render negotiations meaningless,” he said, describing the strikes as a “dangerous sign” for regional stability.

He also issued a strong message of support for Lebanon, asserting that Iran would stand by its allies. “Our fingers remain on the trigger,” he said, adding that Iran would not abandon its “Lebanese sisters and brothers.”

Parliament Speaker Issues Warning

Separately, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned of consequences if ceasefire violations continue.

He emphasised that Lebanon and allied groups in the region form a key part of the broader ceasefire framework, suggesting that any breach could trigger a strong response.

Ghalibaf also referenced remarks by Shehbaz Sharif, indicating wider regional concern over the situation.

Rising Tensions in the Region

The statements come amid escalating tensions between Israel and groups operating in Lebanon, raising concerns over the stability of the ceasefire and the risk of a broader conflict.

Recent military actions have heightened fears that the situation could spiral, particularly as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

Ceasefire Under Pressure

Analysts say the latest developments could complicate ongoing negotiations tied to regional stability, especially in the context of wider geopolitical tensions involving Iran and its allies.

With strong rhetoric emerging from key leaders, the situation remains volatile, and the future of ceasefire efforts uncertain.
