Washington [DC]: US Vice President JD Vance departed for Pakistan on Friday to lead a new round of peace negotiations with Iran, expressing cautious optimism about the outcome.

Before leaving, Vance said the American delegation is eager to engage in discussions and hopes the talks will move in a constructive direction. He emphasized that progress will largely depend on Iran’s willingness to participate sincerely.

“I believe the talks can be positive,” Vance stated, while noting that meaningful results would require a genuine commitment from the Iranian side.

He added that if Iran approaches the negotiations in good faith and demonstrates openness, it could pave the way for productive dialogue. However, Vance also issued a warning, saying the U.S. team would not respond favorably to any attempts at manipulation or insincerity.

Vance further highlighted that the delegation is operating under clear directives from the White House, reflecting the administration’s defined strategy going into the discussions.

The talks in Pakistan are seen as a significant diplomatic effort amid ongoing tensions, with both sides under pressure to find common ground.
