Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that Iran is eager to reach an agreement with Washington and predicted that the ongoing conflict would end soon. Speaking during a press interaction, Trump also said global crude oil prices were likely to decline sharply due to excess supply in international markets.
“There’s so much oil out there. Prices are going to come plummeting down,” Trump said while expressing confidence that the tensions involving Iran could be resolved quickly through negotiations.

His remarks come as diplomatic discussions between the United States and Iran continue over a possible peace agreement linked to Tehran’s nuclear programme and regional security concerns.
At the same time, political debate over America’s role in the conflict intensified in Washington. The US Senate voted 50-47 in favour of advancing a resolution aimed at restricting the President’s authority to launch military action against Iran without congressional approval.
The proposal was introduced by Democratic Senator Tim Kaine and seeks to ensure that any future military engagement against Iran would require either a formal declaration of war or a specific authorisation from Congress.
Four Republican senators reportedly joined Democrats in supporting the motion, highlighting growing concern within both parties over the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
Several Democratic lawmakers welcomed the Senate move, describing it as an important step toward limiting unauthorised military involvement.
Representative Adam Schiff said Congress was exercising its constitutional responsibility regarding war powers, while Senator Bernie Sanders argued that Americans do not want billions of dollars spent on prolonged overseas conflicts.
Trump calls off Tuesday plan to attack Iran at Gulf allies request; Warns of full-scale assault
The resolution reflects broader concerns in Washington over escalating tensions in West Asia and the potential economic and geopolitical consequences of another major conflict in the region.
Trump also revealed that a planned US military strike on Iran had recently been postponed following requests from key Gulf leaders, including the Emir of Qatar, the Saudi Crown Prince and the President of the UAE.
According to Trump, regional leaders believed ongoing negotiations could still produce an acceptable agreement. However, he warned that the US military remains prepared for a large-scale operation if talks fail to deliver results.
