New Delhi: India has achieved a major diplomatic success at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting. The SCO member countries have strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April 2025.
However, Pakistan was not directly named in this joint declaration, while India has long accused Pakistan of harboring terrorism.
SCO joint declaration: Strong condemnation of Pahalgam attack
The joint statement issued after the SCO summit in Tianjin City, China, said: “The member countries strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. They expressed deep condolences to the families of the dead and injured. It also said that the culprits, organizers and sponsors of such attacks should be brought to justice.”
The statement has also been shared by countries like China and Turkey, which had previously not shared India's view, so it is being considered a major diplomatic achievement for India.
Condemnation of terrorist attacks in Pakistan
The SCO declaration also condemns terrorist attacks within Pakistan, including the bomb blast on the Jaffar Express on March 11 and the Khuzdar attack on May 21. This shows that the SCO does not consider terrorism a regional but a collective threat.
