New Delhi: Amidst rising tensions in the Middle East, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has seized two vessels. This incident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical maritime routes.

Why Were the Ships Seized?

The Iranian Navy claims that these vessels tampered with their navigation systems and entered the region without the necessary authorization, thereby posing a threat to maritime security.

The seized vessels include the MSC Francesca and the Epaminondes. One of these ships was reportedly en route to Gujarat.

Previous Attacks

Prior to this incident, reports had already emerged regarding attacks on three vessels in this same region. An Iranian gunboat opened fire on one vessel, while other ships were also targeted.

Although the crews were reported to be safe in some instances, there are also reports indicating that one vessel sustained damage.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz Important?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's busiest routes for oil transportation. Vast quantities of crude oil are transported through this waterway to various countries across the globe.

If tensions escalate in this region, it could have a significant impact on global oil supplies and prices.

Global Impact and Concerns

This incident has heightened international concerns. Any disruption to maritime traffic in the area could adversely affect trade and global supply chains.

Furthermore, oil prices—which are already elevated—could witness a further surge, thereby exacerbating inflation worldwide.

Rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz could pose a major threat to the global economy. The entire world is closely watching how the situation unfolds in the days ahead.
