Instagram Tests ‘Instants’ App with Auto-Disappearing Photos (Image Source: Internet)
New Delhi: Instagram is now testing a new image-sharing app named ‘Instants.’ This app allows users to share content that automatically disappears after a certain period. This is being viewed as part of Meta’s new strategy to challenge Snapchat and BeReal.
In Which Countries Has Testing Begun?
Currently, the Instants app is being tested in select countries, such as Italy and Spain. A listing for the app has appeared on the Google Play Store, but it is not yet available to the general public.
What Are the Key Features of Instants?
This app focuses on "real and unedited" content—a departure from current social media trends.
No Camera Roll Access—Only Live Photos
Instants will not include an option to upload photos from a user's gallery.
Users will only be able to capture and share photos or videos using the app's built-in camera, thereby ensuring the content remains more authentic.
Who Can You Share With?
Users will be able to share their posts exclusively with:
In other words, content will be visible only to mutual connections or within one's close circle.
Meta is testing this concept in two ways: in some regions, it is being tested as a standalone app, while in others, it is being tested as a feature integrated directly within Instagram.
For some time now, Instagram has been shifting its focus away from "perfect" and heavily edited content toward real-life moments. Instants represents a significant step in this direction, enabling users to share moments from their lives without any pretense or curation.
If this initiative proves successful, the prevailing trend in social media could shift away from "filters and perfection" toward "real and instant sharing."
