Tehran: Iran has urged the United States to move away from what it described as a “one-sided approach” after US President Donald Trump dismissed Tehran’s latest peace proposal as “totally unacceptable”.

The sharp exchange comes amid continuing tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns over the impact of the Strait of Hormuz crisis on global oil supply and regional stability.

Tehran Lists Key Demands

Speaking during a media briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran’s proposal focused on protecting Iran’s national interests while also seeking stability in the region.

Baghaei said Iran’s demands included an end to hostilities, lifting of sanctions, release of frozen Iranian assets, and an end to what Tehran called “maritime piracy”. He also stressed that regional security should remain in the hands of regional countries and warned against foreign intervention in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We only raised Iran’s legitimate rights. Everything proposed was reasonable and aimed at regional and global welfare,” Baghaei said, according to Iranian state-linked media reports.

He also rejected accusations that Iran was acting aggressively in the region, saying the country had behaved responsibly despite growing international pressure.

Trump Rejects Proposal

The latest response from Tehran was formally conveyed to Washington through Pakistani mediation after internal consultations in Iran, state media reported.

However, President Donald Trump reacted strongly to the proposal and rejected it outright.

“I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without elaborating on specific objections.

Reports suggest Iran’s proposal included demands for sanctions relief, compensation for war-related damages, guarantees against future attacks, reopening of shipping routes, and recognition of Iranian sovereignty concerns linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

Global Concerns Over Oil Supply

The diplomatic standoff has intensified concerns over disruptions in global shipping and energy markets. Oil prices reportedly climbed after the US rejection of Iran’s proposal, as uncertainty continued over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz a crucial route for global oil transportation.

Analysts say the failure to reach a breakthrough has added fresh uncertainty to already fragile negotiations aimed at reducing tensions in the Gulf region.
